Spring into Your Best Memory with Turmeric Tea

Ginger Turmeric Tea

Is there anything that warms your heart like a cup of tea?  I thought not!  The memory and health benefits of Turmeric are too numerous to list in this paragraph, so we’ll summarize.  Turmeric, and it’s main compound curcumin, may reverse memory problems, improve mood, and the benefits have been observed not only in cognitive abilities, but also in brain cells!  I’ll raise my mug to that!  Enjoy this simple yet oh so powerful recipe…your brain will thank you.

Ingredients:

  • 1 Inch of Fresh Turmeric Root, peeled and thinly sliced

  • 1/2 inch of fresh ginger, peeled and thinly sliced

  • A healthy pinch of freshly ground black pepper

  • Maple Syrup or local honey to taste (optional)

  • Lemon wedge (optional)

In a saucepan, add 3 cups of filtered water, turmeric, ginger and pepper.  Simmer for 8-10 minutes.  Strain and serve!  Add with sweetener of your choice and lemon wedge if you choose.

Make it memorable:

Give your brain an extra boost and take your cup of tea to the next level of cozy!  Pour your fresh brew into a special mug or tea cup that you may rarely use.  I have a set of china teacups from my grandmother that I find to be the perfect compliment to this comforting recipe…but any mug you use less often, or even that silly white elephant in the back of your cupboard would make this hot elixer even more memory boosting.  Let the sight and feel of a different cup compliment the novel flavor of your turmeric tea.

Want to take it a step further?  Light a candle, take a few deep breaths, and tuck into your journal or a gratitude list…that positive emotional state and the mindfulness are some of the best remedies to a poor memory!

Journaling or conversation starter:

  • What do you like best about the first few days of spring?

  • What are some items of “Memory” or “Someday” clutter you could unload with your spring cleaning this year?

  • What is your favorite treat to pair with a cup of tea?
