Frequently Asked Questions

What to know when working with Chunky Seahorse

Nearly everyone in my family has gotten dementia when they got older. Is there really anything I can do to prevent memory loss if it runs in my family?

Our classes and materials are all created directly from evidence-based materials that demonstrate benefits in memory and cognition. While there are genetic predispositions that will impact your memory, we provide resources that support the optimal functioning of the brain regardless of your baseline memory or your genetic predisposition. It is our belief that ANYONE can take positive steps towards their best memory, and more importantly towards their most memorable life.

What does it mean to take a lifestyle-based or whole-person approach to memory?

We operate under the awareness that our bodies, or minds, and our energy systems all work together to create our health and our reality. A whole-person approach takes all of the aspects of a lifestyle into consideration, with the understanding that each one plays a critical role in connection with the others. Our services are designed to enhance memory from all aspects of lifestyle and through every facet of your being.

My memory has always been terrible.  Can this approach really work for someone like me?

Regardless of your baseline memory levels, (which are probably not nearly as bad as you think) everyone can take positive steps towards their best memory. Often a “bad” memory is due to an inability to pay attention, stress levels, or simply never having learned how to remember! We challenge you to discover how good your memory is and how much better it can become!

I have taken many memory classes before and have learned many of the most popular strategies, but I still find myself forgetting to use them.  Is there help for that?

Not “remembering to remember” is a common complaint! Establishing techniques and reminders to employ our memory retention strategies is part of our curriculum. We recognize that neither lifestyle change nor adopting new habits and routines is easy to do! Our goal is to make the memory retention principles effective and useful but supporting every step of the process.

I am a middle-aged professional who wants to be proactive about my memory and improve how much I can remember for my professional and personal life. Are these services right for me?

These services were created for you! The foundational tenants we teach for enhancing your memory and your quality of life are designed to improve memory retention and cognition. Whether trying to use optimal memory to balance a full career and family life, aiming for a superior memory to enhance learning and skills while in school, or working towards the healthiest memory possible in retirement, our strategies apply at the lifestyle level to one and all!

I have a neurological condition that affects my memory. Does your program address those specific needs?

There are a multitude of conditions that effect a person’s ability to remember, including PTSD, epilepsy, brain injury, Parkinson’s Disease, and Alzheimer’s and Dementia. While it is impossible for us to address each condition, our classes and workshops are designed to enhance the cognitive environment and to promote the best conditions for memory, regardless of a person’s abilities.* Our 1:1 coaching is tailored to meet an individual’s specific needs and goals.

*Our services are designed for individuals who have a level of cognition that does not prevent them from living independently.  Many of the tenants we teach, for example that of novelty and change, while healthy and stimulating for those with functioning memory, may create confusion, disruption, and disorientation to those in the later stages of Alzheimer’s Disease or Dementia.

Memory Alive! Class Series FAQs

What if my memory is worse than other class participants.

Many participants begin class with apprehension.  Classes are designed so that all levels can effectively and seamlessly learn together, and we think you’ll be pleasantly surprised at your ability to “keep up” and contribute.  Also, included with full tuition, students have access to the instructor over email and through zoom office hours so that you feel fully supported on your journey.

I want to enroll in the class series, but what if I miss a class along the way?

If you are unable to make it to a class, you will have access to the recording of the class and can view it at your convenience.  Also, you may attend up to two make up classes during an alternate class series.

Does the Zoom platform actually work for this class dynamic?

We have found that the online platform is an excellent modality for memory classes!  Each student has a front row seat with full control of volume and the ability to modify their surroundings for their best learning.  The Zoom platform encourages an interactive classroom and the ability to feel close to all class participants, while providing the safety we all need during these uncertain times.  Our experience also shows that learning while in the home environment is an excellent way to connect and practice the memory concepts with each student’s individual lifestyle.

I would like to offer this class in a community that I live in or manage.  Can I set up a private class for our community?

Yes!  We provide many classes for private groups, student bodies, and senior living communities.  Please book a consultation to discuss your community’s needs, or fill out a contact us form to receive a call back within 24 hours!
